THINK PINK!

Beginning in the fall of 2007, the United Professional Horsemen’s Association (UPHA), in cooperation with the American Royal, began a new tradition in Saddlebred horse shows. They designated the Ladies’ Five-Gaited Open as the “UPHA Pink Ribbon” class, with proceeds from the class donated to breast cancer research through UPHA Foundation, Inc. The organizers and promoters of this class made available several different ways for people to support the UPHA Pink Ribbon class at various horse shows, such as pledging a certain amount for every entry in the class, or donating a certain amount in celebration of a loved one who has battled breast cancer. The goal of the UPHA Foundation, Inc. was to raise $100,000 for the Susan G. Komen For The Cure® and other breast cancer awareness organizations, in three years.

At the American Royal UPHA Horse Show this November (2008), with the celebrants standing in center ring, observing the UPHA Pink Ribbon class, it was announced that the original $100,000 goal had already been met and passed.

Joining in this new tradition, the Longview Horse Park Association Benefit Show 2009 has designated the Ladies Western Pleasure Open (Walk, Optional Gait, and Canter) as the “UPHA Pink Ribbon” class. This will be a Non-Point class, proceeds of which will be donated to the UPHA Foundation, Inc. in support of breast cancer research and awareness. This is the first Western Pleasure class to be designated by UPHA as a “UPHA Pink Ribbon” class.

The Longview Horse Park Association Benefit Show invites our Ladies Western Pleasure Open exhibitors to show support for this class, by obtaining sponsors for your ride. The UPHA will provide special ribbons and first-place trophy for the winner, in addition to the already beautiful ribbons awarded by the Longview Horse Park Association. In addition, a special trophy halter and lead (guess what color?) will be awarded for the exhibitor bringing in the most money in sponsorships.

The Longview Horse Park Association Benefit Show also invites everyone to show support for this worthy cause by donating to the UPHA Foundation, Inc. for the UPHA Pink Ribbon class, in celebration of your loved one who has battled breast cancer. Those celebrants present at the Longview Benefit show on August 22, 2009, will be recognized during the UPHA Pink Ribbon class.

WE HOPE YOU ARE “TICKLED PINK” AT THIS NEW ADDITION!
